Drier, More Pleasant Weather Now

Rainfall is Up, Deficit is Down

The rain has fallen, the lightning has put on a show in the sky, the wind has done its damage and now the storm system that brought over 300 storm reports yesterday in the midwest and Ohio Valley has pushed off to the Northeast.

Yesterday marks an historic record. This time its finally not temperatures, its rainfall. We recorded 2.71" of rain yesterday for September 7. This marks beats the old previous record of 1.19" for the day set back in 1942. This is also the 4TH wettest first week of September. This month, Sept 1-7 we have picked up 4.69" of rainfall. Here's more info from the NWS

Also, we could be moving our way up the ranks on another record. Here's more info from the NWS.

Hows that for numbers?
Well one last thing, I've taken a look back. The last wettest day above yesterdays 2.71" was way back on April 19, 2011 when 3.06" of rain fell. That month finished with 7.98" of rain. The wettest day on record is September 1, 2003 when 7.20" was recorded in one day. The wettest month on record is July 1875 with 13.12" of rain.

Here's the updated deficit chart in Indiana. Any rainfall recorded today WAS NOT added into this chart.

We are heading back into a dry pattern for a while. All the rainfall and high humidity the past week has now lead up to this moment. We are now under the influence of a Northwesterly breeze. This along with some fair weather cumulus clouds will keep our temperatures down at or below 75° since Early June. We will see a mixture of sunshine and clouds today but it should be beautiful and feel pleasant for the upcoming days. A warm up is coming next week though. We'll head back to mid 80s for Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday. Before our next rain chance arrives next Friday.
