(2) 22 out of the past 24 days finish w/ at or above normal temps
Record heat has finished its run! On Tuesday, we tied the warmest low temp of 74° set back 94 yrs ago in 1919. We then later reached 96° for the high Tuesday which broke a 49 year old record high of 95° set back in 1964. This ties August 31st as the hottest temperature of the year. Then on Wednesday we tied the warmest low again. The 72° low was originally set in 1900 and tied in 1931. We tied a 116 year old record high of 95&176; Wednesday afternoon. This record was first set back in 1897. We got 3 90° days this month in a row. This brings our yrs total to 14. The average years sees 15.
Thursday Forecast:
A series of cold fronts are passing through that will ultimately lead to some of the coolest air of the season since June 3rd. There are some showers around the state this morning which we all can welcome with open arms. These should end this afternoon. We may squeeze out a few rays of sun before the day ends. Temperatures will struggle to top the 80s today. This could be only the 2nd time in the past 24 days to do so. Highs will range between 78°-82°. As of 9AM, the low temperature is 70° & it appears we've received 0.15" of rain at Indianapolis International Airport. The gauge is down so the hourly observations aren't actually coming through.

We could come close to our 1st sub 70 high and sub 50 low either Friday or Saturday. History shows, its common and usually bound to happen during the month of September. In fact, each of the past 14 years has seen a 60° high by September 30th and 63 out the past 65 years has seen a 40° low in September. 2008 & 2009 didn't see the 1st 40° low until October 1st.
