Above Normal Temperatures Settling In

We have turned the page on a new month and with that ends our wettest October since 2013. The month finished with 5.43" of precipitation which was far beyond 3.12" we typically average for the month. It was ranked as the 14th wettest October on record. There were 14 days out of the month that saw a trace or more of precipitation with the wettest day being on 19th with 1.18". As for temperaures, the month finished with an average temperatures of 54.7°. There was absolutely nothing spectacular about that as it failed to rank amongst the Top 50 coolest or warmest. For future reference, our last occurrence in the 80s happened on October 22nd. We will revisit this stat in the Spring. Looking at weather records in Indianapolis, there has never been a 80+ degree temperature reading between November 2-March 7

November opened up with some of the coldest air the city of Indianapolis hasn't seen in 200 days. The morning low of 26° on Monday was the coldest since 24° on April 16. Temperatures climbed above freezing during the 9 AM hour on Monday and has since stayed above the threshold that will extend until late next week. With this warmer brand of air temperatures will return to the 40s and 50s in the morning and 60s and 70s in the afternooon. These temperature readings could be as much as 20 degrees above normal.

A weak upper trough will move into the area tonight into tomorrow. Since moisture in the Gulf is cutoff, conditions will remain dry. I did, however, add a few clouds into my forecast for later this afternoon and the added cloud cover will hang around on Thursday too but coverage will not be 100%. with that being said, you can still expect to see the sun both today and tomorrow.

High Pressure will continue to take the wheel for the weekend and with winds steering in from the southwest, another boost in temperatures will occur. I'm particularly watching Sunday and Monday as we could have the potential to a approach a record high for the date. Friday, Saturday, Sunday, and Monday will be very pleasant with high temperaures in the 70s.

Things will soon start to change with an approaching cold front that will past through our region the middle of next week. The disturbance will bring in a period of showers or possibly even a thunderstorms with this system around Veteran's Day. In wake of the front, low temperatures will once again return towards the 32° threshold possbily ending a 230+ hour run of above freezing warmth. The pattern is likely to shift back and forth between cold and warm spells for the rest of the month.
