For us in Central Indiana, we aren't expecting any significant weather systems here. A few morning flurries in the sky was just about it. We'll have morning clouds and afternoon sunshine today and a more sunny day tomorrow. It'll be colder today but warmer Saturday and Sunday. Yesterday, we hit a high of 53° which was 15° above normal (38°) but 13° from the record high of 66° (1925). This was the warmest temperature for this month and warmest since Tuesday, January 29th and Wednesday the 30th when we were in the 60s. Last night, a system moved through that produced 0.12" of rainfall. Should be looking at a fairly dry day today and tomorrow before the next rain chance comes in on Sunday. Temperatures will be near 40 tomorrow and close to 50 again on Sunday.
MILD SPELL BRIEF, COLDER AIR TO RETURN
It'll be tough to tell if the groundhog was right for the next 6 weeks. There are indications that colder air may mark its return for the second half of February. The biggest question is how long will it last? It doesn't appear the cold weather will hold. Here's a video discussion from BAM CHASE TEAM. METEOROLOGICAL WINTER
Despite a chilly end to December and chilly start to both January and February, we are nearly 2 1/2 months into meteorological winter and 59.4% of this seasons days have been above normal. Out of 69 days, 41 days have been above normal, 24 days below normal, and 4 days normal. The average temp since December 1st is 31.2°, this is 1.5° above normal. This is not one of our warmest winters. In fact, last winter finished at the 9th warmest winter on record. Currently we are 6.4° behind last years pace. The average temp for December 1st, 2011-February 7th 2012 was 27.6°. This winter, December 1st, 2012-February 7th, 2013, the average temp again is 31.2°. The total amount of snowfall for this season so far sits at nearly 19". This is about a half inch above normal. We average another 6" of snow between now and the end of April. We'll see how this plays out but I don't think we'll finish this season with above normal snowfall.
UPCOMING....
I mentioned above about colder weather coming but how are snow chances for us. Again, a sketchy setup coming could have weather questionable til the end of the month. However, a southern snow system could clip southern parts of the state on Wednesday. It wants to try and avoid Indiana so now it looks like it may be a dry and sunny day for us in Central Indiana for both Wednesday and Valentines Day with high temperatures in the mid to upper 30s. I'm forecasting 38 for Valentines Day. Will watch and see if the chances come back, I wouldn't entirely ignore that possibility. Here's a look back at some Valentines Day weather stats and my latest 7 day.
